Closer to a Cure

In the last decade we've moved ever closer to finding a cure for breast cancer thanks to the work you fund. Here we share what we hope to achieve in the next 10 years.

We believe that people who have had breast cancer will live longer and healthier lives. However, significant challenges need to be overcome before we can reach our goal as today around 1,000 women a month die of breast cancer in the UK.

What we might expect by 2020

We plan to commit £30 million to fund our Research Centre over the next five years. But we need a further £3.5 million per year to realise the potential of our discoveries. Here's a snapshot of what we hope to achieve if we raise the funds required:

  • Breast cancer will no longer be life-threatening for many patients. We hope it will increasingly be a long-term manageable disease thanks to more targeted treatments.
  • People with breast cancer will live longer and healthier lives thanks to new and better targeted treatments.
  • We will find ways to prevent the return of breast cancer. New tests will enable us to tell if a patient's cancer is likely to return - and we'll have treatments to prevent this.
  • We will know who is at high risk of developing breast cancer, give them health advice or preventative treatments to prevent it, and change the future for thousands of women.

We will be closer to outwitting breast cancer

From personalised treatments which enable doctors to predict the exact combination of drugs for a specific patient, to being able to work out whether a tumour will develop resistance to certain drugs, we will be closer to a cure for breast cancer.

We believe passionately that this disease can be beaten. Your continued support is vital to ensure we keep on track to fulfil our vision.
