Breakthrough’s Family History Campaign
Breakthrough works hard to improve genetic and family history services and prevent people experiencing discrimination as a result of their family history of breast cancer.
Breast Screening for women with a family history
We’re campaigning for women with a significant family history of breast cancer to benefit from the early breast screening they are entitled to under current national guidelines. Their increased risk of developing the disease- often at a younger age – entitles many of these women to breast screening before the age of 50.
However, women and healthcare professionals have told Breakthrough that these services are not available in some parts of England. Changing this is one of our main campaign goals.
Genetics & insurance
We’re also working to make sure that insurance companies cannot use the results of most genetic tests to set insurance premiums.
