How your money helps

Breakthrough is leading the fight against breast cancer on three fronts - research, campaigning and education. We rely on the donations of our supporters to be able to continue our vital work.

£6

Could pay for one person’s blood to be processed as part of the Breakthrough Generations Study – the world’s largest, most comprehensive study into the causes of breast cancer.  We’re following 100,000 women in the UK for 40 years to help us find crucial information about the causes of breast cancer.

£25

Could pay for an hour of a senior scientist’s time. Their work could help develop more accurate ways of classifying breast cancers to improve their diagnosis and treatment.

£65

Could pay for enough specialist chemicals to enable a scientist to carry out their experiments for one day.

£200

Could buy antibodies used by many of our scientists. These determine whether certain proteins are involved in the development and progression of breast cancer, helping to identify potential drug targets.

£500

Could pay for a transilluminator, an essential piece of equipment for scientists to study DNA during experiments.
