Helen Garrett
"The Breakthrough Research Centre does so much. In the four intervening years between my first and second diagnosis the treatments have already changed so much."
Helen has a long history of charity work and has been a valued member of the Breakthrough volunteer team for over six years, taking part in the Moonwalk no less than three times! Diagnosed with breast cancer twice before the age of 35, Helen started volunteering for Breakthrough because she wanted to “give something back”. She feels that “by volunteering…I am making a contribution to the research of breast cancer” and goes on to say that “the Breakthrough Research Centre does so much. In the four intervening years between my first and second diagnosis the treatments have already changed a lot”.
The inspirational way in which Helen dealt with her experience of overcoming the disease, not once, but twice, has not only empowered her but has contributed to the ongoing work of our Research Centre. The funds she continues to raise will continue to aid our pioneering work, changing lives through research, campaigning and education.
