Danielle & Sylvie Leslie
"We both felt very strongly that we had to do something specific to try and raise money towards breast cancer research and treatment."
Future Dreams - The Beginning
Two years ago Danielle Leslie and her mother Sylvie set up the charity 'Future Dreams' to raise money for breast cancer research. Both women have had breast cancer and with a background in theatre and dance embarked on an ambitious project to put on a West End variety show to raise funds. Shortly after, Sylvie was sadly diagnosed with secondary cancer, but determined the show must go on, the pair raised £300K for Breakthrough Breast Cancer in a celeb-filled Savoy Theatre. The complete sell-out featured performances from Denise van Outen, Lee Mead, Summer Strallen and was hosted by Vernon Kaye and Patrick Kielty.
Future Dreams: One More Time
Despite Sylvie’s deteriorating health, the mum and daughter decided to do it all again. On Sunday 4th October, the bigger Piccadilly theatre hosted their new show 'One More Time' with performances from Ray Quinn and the cast of Grease, the Jersey Boys, Ruthie Henshall and many more. Gaby Roslin co-hosted the show with Vernon Kay, Patrick Kielty and Donna Air.
Despite working full-time on the show, sometimes from her hospital bed, Sylvie’s cancer could not be cured and she passed away in July at home with her family. Just before she died the family received the devastating news that Danielle’s cancer had returned and she too had secondary cancer.
Staying Focused
After the death of her mother, the success of the show this year rested with Danielle and a group of committed friends. Despite having chemotherapy every week and the grief of losing her mother, Danielle made her mother's dream come true on Sunday 4th October by raising even more for Breakthrough's research. Breast cancer has devastated the family, but hope for the future of Danielle’s daughter and women everywhere remains their absolute focus.
Danielle was confident that with this amazing support she could bring her mother's dream alive on stage on Sunday 4th October. She beat last year’s fundraising total of £300,000 to fund Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s life saving research work, this time raising £400,000!
